Four months without work: Staff of Channel Five appealed to President

The staff of Channel Five turned to the head of state Sadyr Japarov and the head of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov with a request to decide their future fate. The video appeal was published on the channel’s official Facebook page.

«We have no work for the fourth month. We were not told what would happen to us next. At the beginning of the year, they said that they would hand the channel over to the Bishkek City Hall. They say that they plan to close our channel with a 25-year history. Our team is over 60 employees. Our issue will be considered in the Parliament. I hope that our voices will be heard and we will not be left on the street,» Ermek Kurenkeev, editor-in-chief, said.

The Cabinet of Ministers has developed a draft program for the privatization of state property in Kyrgyzstan for 2023-2025 and amendments to the program for the effective management of nationalized objects.

At a meeting of the Committee on Budget, Economic and Fiscal Policy on January 23, Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce Chyngyz Makeshov said that Channel Five and Pyramid were included in the privatization program. The first was proposed to be transferred to the jurisdiction of the capital’s City Hall, the second — to Kyrgyzaltyn OJSC as the authorized capital.
