President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law requiring a license to organize Umrah. Uzbek media report.
According to the changes, a new type of licensed activity is being introduced for organizing and holding Umrah events.
Violators face a fine of 200 basic calculated rates (68 million sums, or $5,400). A license issued by the Committee for Religious Affairs costs 10 basic calculated rates (3.4 million sums, or $270).
The law will come into force in October 2024. The measures are aimed at combating illegal activities and ensuring the safety of pilgrims.
