Man with 40 kilograms of mercury detained at Too-Ashuu pass

A 57-year-old man was detained at Too-Ashuu pass in Chui region. At least 40 kilograms of mercury were confiscated from him during a search. The press center of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS) reported.

The SCNS employees received information that certain individuals were planning to bring a large batch of toxic substances from Batken region to Bishkek for sale. The car, which the suspect was driving, was found. He was detained at Too-Ashuu pass. The man planned to sell 40 kilograms of mercury in the capital for $8,000.

Investigative and operational measures are underway to identify other people involved in the illicit trafficking of toxic substances.
