Ex-employee of National Academy of Sciences placed under house arrest

Former employee of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic Zhoomart Karabaev was placed under house arrest. A human rights activist Gulshaiyr Abdirasulova reported.

She noted that Zhoomart Karabaev’s mother is in the hospital. The court replaced the measure of restraint in the form of detention with house arrest so that he could take care of his mother.

«But Zhoomart himself has lost weight, and he also needs to be examined. The political scientist’s examinations should be excluded in his case. The court should also take into account the fact that the same linguistic experts gave contradictory conclusions during the primary and additional examinations. I demand to stop criminal prosecution of Zhoomart,» Gulshaiyr Abdirasulova wrote.

The former research fellow of the National Academy of Sciences previously testified in the case against publicist Olzhobai Shakir, who was sentenced to five years in prison in May 2024 for preparing for mass riots.

Earlier, the former employee of the National Academy of Sciences reported threats to his life and asked human rights activist Aziza Abdirasulova for legal assistance.
