The Ministry of Education’s initiative to switch to 12-year school education system is doomed to failure, MP Kamila Talieva stated during a meeting of the parliamentary committee on social policy.
According to her, the reason for this is the closure of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
«You won’t be able to switch to 12-year education in the coming years. The Ministry of Education was relying on USAID. Out of their 24 projects, 22 have shut down. They were counting on these developments. The transition will be a failure. I suggested switching to the 10-year system. I mentioned that even the UK is reverting to the Soviet-era education model. Let’s see where you will end up. The Ministry of Education’s goal is to receive grants,» Kamila Talieva said.
She added that she didn’t want to hear responses from Deputy Minister of Education Nadira Dzhusupbekova, claiming the official was «used to lying beautifully.»
The MP also criticized ministers who did not attend the meeting.
«It’s good when heads of departments show up, answer questions, and take responsibility. Only the new ministers came today. Are the rest shadow cardinals? Our spoiled boy Nurdan Oruntaev isn’t here. Where are Ravshan Sabirov and Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva? Last year, the ministers of education and health were traveling. This year, they got reprimanded, but they still don’t come to meetings,» she said indignantly.
At the meeting, the deputies listened to the ministries’ report on the implementation of the parliamentary resolution on the development of the social sphere.
