Imams of Kyrgyzstan to be tested on knowledge of traffic rules

The Spiritual Directorate of the Muslims of Kyrgyzstan (SDMK), in cooperation with the Main Road Safety Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will hold a competition on traffic rules among official religious clerics.

According to the muftiyat, the initiative aims to improve the legal literacy of imams and promote road safety. The decision to organize the competition was made following a meeting of SDMK representatives with officers of the Main Road Safety Department, during which the importance of obeying traffic rules was discussed in the light of the increasing number of road accidents.

  • The competition will be held simultaneously across all regions in an online format using smartphones.
  • Each structure—district khatibiyats and the offices of the muftiyat/kaziyats—will participate in the competition as separate teams.
  • The competition will be organized separately for district khatibiyats and for the muftiyat/kaziyats offices.
  • The final results of the teams will be evaluated based on two main criteria: the proportion of participants relative to the total number of staff, and the participants’ level of knowledge (based on test scores).

SDMK emphasized that in Islam, human life holds the highest value, and therefore observing traffic rules is both a religious and civic duty.

The muftiyat has been running a campaign «Human Life is an Amanat» for several years, under which awareness-raising activities and joint initiatives with government agencies are carried out.

According to the National Statistical Committee, a traffic accident is recorded in Kyrgyzstan every one and a half hours. The situation is particularly alarming in the regions.
