Karatekas from Kyrgyzstan win bronze at tournament in Spain

Athletes from Kyrgyzstan won bronze at WKF Karate-Do Competitions in Spain. The press service of the City Hall reported.

The tournament was held in Guadalajara with the participation of more than 3,000 athletes from 80 countries.

Three athletes from the Specialized Children’s and Youth school of the Olympic Reserve Olympus competed at the tournament, two of whom won bronze medals: Matvey Yavget in the 14-15-year-old category (up to 70 kilograms) and Ilya Kobelev in the 16-17-year-old category (over 76 kilograms).

Both karatekas had seven fights, of which they won six, demonstrating a high level of training and the will to win.

Based on the results of the competitions, Matvey Yavget ranks 9th in the world rankings in his age category, and Ilya Kobelev ranks 11th. The main goal of the tournament was to identify the strongest young karatekas, improve their level of sports skills, and also to earn important ranking points for selection to the 2026 Youth Olympic Games, which will be held in Dakar (Senegal).
