The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Adylbek Kasymaliev met with the Vice President of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia. The meeting took place in Washington at a session of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group. The press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reported.
Adylbek Kasymaliev expressed gratitude to the World Bank for its long-term strategic partnership and support. He noted that over the past three years, Kyrgyzstan has seen sustainable economic growth, reaching 9 percent. High economic activity contributes to the creation of new jobs, which is a key priority of the Cabinet and is in line with the World Bank’s poverty reduction goals.
The Chairman of the Cabinet informed about the implementation of large-scale structural reforms aimed at stimulating business activity, supporting strategic industries, modernizing infrastructure and improving the investment climate. In particular, it was noted that reforms were being carried out to de-bureaucratize and transfer public services to the private sector through PPP and outsourcing to reduce bureaucratic barriers and increase trust in government institutions.
The recent upgrading of Kyrgyzstan’s credit rating by Standard & Poor’s (S&P Global Ratings) to B+ with a «stable» outlook was highlighted as a significant achievement.
According to Adylbek Kasymaliev, this was made possible thanks to high macroeconomic indicators, stable fiscal policy, sustainability of public debt and consistent implementation of reforms.
The key topic of the negotiations was the project on construction of Kambarata HPP-1. The head of the Cabinet emphasized its strategic importance for the energy security of Kyrgyzstan and the entire region.
He noted that the HPP will be one of the largest in Central Asia, will allow for the export of electricity and will significantly reduce carbon emissions.
«This project will make a significant contribution to fulfilling the country’s obligations under the Paris Agreement and will contribute to the implementation of the global green agenda,» Adylbek Kasymaliev emphasized.
In turn, World Bank Vice President Antonella Bassani highly praised the cooperation with Kyrgyzstan. She called Kambarata HPP-1 project «a wonderful, transformative project» for the entire region and emphasized that it is one of the priorities for the World Bank.
Antonella Bassani also congratulated the head of the Cabinet on the signing of the historic border agreement with Tajikistan, calling it an important step in strengthening regional stability. She expressed admiration for the economic progress of Kyrgyzstan, the high dynamics of reforms and the significant progress of Kambarata HPP-1 project.
Adylbek Kasymaliev also held talks with Anna Bjerde, Managing Director for Operations at the World Bank.
Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the strategic project for the construction of Kambarata HPP-1. Adylbek Kasymaliev emphasized that the project is an absolute priority for Kyrgyzstan and is important for the energy security of the entire Central Asian region. He said that the government of Kyrgyzstan continues to finance the preparatory work from its own funds, and the updating of the feasibility study is on schedule and will be completed in May of this year.
