Kurultai of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan elects new composition of Ulema Council

The IX Kurultai of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan was held in Bishkek on April 26. The event was attended by 220 delegates from all regions of the country. The Spiritual Directorate of the Muslims of Kyrgyzstan (SDMK) reported.

The agenda included issues of assessing the activities of the VII convocation of the Ulema Council, approving the composition of the VIII convocation, as well as adopting a new version of the charter of the SDMK, brought into line with the current legislation.

Deputy Head of the Department of Political and Economic Research of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic Oktyabr Kapalbaev, Chairman of the National Agency for Religious Affairs and Interethnic Relations Azamat Yusupov, Supreme Mufti of Kyrgyzstan Abdulaziz kary Zakirov, representatives of religious structures of the SDMK, as well as guests and activists working in the religious sphere participated in the work of the Kurultai.

The activities of the Ulema Council over the past four years were highly appreciated. The candidates who scored the highest points in the exam, conducted by the certification commission, were approved for the new Council. In addition, the new charter of the SDMK was unanimously adopted.

As part of the changes, the number of members of the Ulema Council was increased from 21 to 25 people.

At the first meeting of the new composition, Zamir kary Rakiyev was unanimously elected its Chairman.
