Electricity tariffs will be adjusted every year — Ministry of Energy

Electricity tariffs change is aimed at ensuring sustainable development of the energy sector, reducing the budget deficit and modernizing the infrastructure in the industry. Timur Orozaliev, Director of the Department for Regulation of the Fuel and Energy Complex under the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan, announced on the air of Birinchi Radio.

According to him, over the past 10 years, electricity consumption in the republic has increased by 3.6 billion kilowatt-hours, which has significantly increased the load on the energy system.

«In 2024, the financial deficit in the energy system amounted to 8.1 billion soms. In this regard, an analysis of the situation was carried out, on the basis of which tariffs were adjusted to gradually bring them to the cost level. Electricity tariffs for the population are socially oriented, that is, they are set below the actual cost,» Timur Orozaliev said.

He noted that the tariff for the population for consumption of up to 700 kilowatt-hours is currently 1.11 soms, and the cost price by the end of 2025 is expected to be 2.72 soms.

The set tariff for the population makes up only 40.8 percent of the cost price.

Timur Orozaliev added that tariffs will be adjusted every year by an average of 20 percent for the population.

According to him, there are 1,585 million consumers in the republic, including 1,472 million household and 112,000 industrial consumers.

From May 1, 2025 the tariff for the population for consumption of up to 700 kilowatt-hours will be 1.37 soms instead of the current 1.11 soms, and if the limit is exceeded, consumers will pay 2.60 soms (the current tariff is 2.39 soms). The number of consumer groups has been reduced from 14 to 7.
