Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Economy introduces “tax audit” concept

The Ministry of Economy is introducing the concept of a «tax audit» in Kyrgyzstan, Deputy Minister Iskender Asylkulov announced during a meeting of the Committee on Budget and Fiscal Policy of the Parliament.

He explained the difference between a tax audit and a tax inspection.

According to the official, a moratorium on tax inspections has been in place. As a result, taxpayers could go without inspections for several years. In practice, only 3 percent of small and medium-sized businesses underwent tax inspections during the moratorium.

Iskender Asylkulov noted that when inspections eventually took place, various violations were often discovered.

«To avoid this, entrepreneurs will now be able to voluntarily request a tax audit from the State Tax Service. Based on the results, an official report will be issued. If any violations are identified, they will be listed. The entrepreneur can then submit a corrected report and pay 30 percent of the total taxes owed, with the remaining liabilities being waived,» he explained.
