A meeting with the family of a citizen of Kyrgyzstan Azamat Nurmatov, detained in Turkey, took place at the Consular Department of the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MFA) of Kyrgyzstan.
According to the press service of the Foreign Ministry, during the meeting, the relatives were provided with detailed information about the measures taken by the Ministry and diplomatic institutions of the Kyrgyz Republic in Turkey to protect the rights and legitimate interests of Azamat Nurmatov.
The family was given a detailed explanation of the legislation of the Republic of Turkey regulating the procedure for conducting investigative and procedural actions. For this purpose, a video conference was organized with an employee of the Consulate General of the Kyrgyz Republic in Istanbul. During the online meeting, the relatives were told what procedures are applied to the detainee and were told about possible further steps.
The Foreign Ministry reported that the issue of establishing direct contact between the lawyer and Azamat Nurmatov, as well as the possibility of organizing a telephone conversation between Nurmatov and his family, is currently being worked out.According to the ministry, Azamat Nurmatov lived in Turkey in 2016-2017 during an attempted coup. As the MFA notes, he used a mobile application used by supporters of Fethullah Gülen, a movement recognized as terrorist in Turkey. In connection with this, he was put on the wanted list and detained by Turkish law enforcement agencies.
The MFA of the Kyrgyz Republic emphasizes that the situation is under special control, and the ministry’s employees are in touch with the lawyer and relatives of the detainee.
