Measles outbreak: Nine children died in Kyrgyzstan since beginning of 2025

Nine children have died in Kyrgyzstan since the beginning of 2025 due to complications caused by measles. The Ministry of Health confirmed the information to 24-kg.com news agency.

According to representatives of the ministry, the patients had different vaccination statuses. Some were not yet of the vaccination age, and some were vaccinated once.

According to the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis as of April 8, 2025, at least 5,168 cases of measles have been registered in the republic, more than half of them are in Bishkek.

Specialists noted that 4,886 patients (or 95 percent) were not vaccinated, including due to age (31 percent), refusal of vaccination (44 percent), migration (1 percent) and medical exemptions (9 percent). In another 9 percent of cases, the vaccination status of the patients is unknown. At the same time, 282 patients (about 5 percent) received one or two doses of the MMR vaccine.

The Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis promised to provide updated statistics later.
