Over 19,000 Tien Shan spruce saplings planted in Grigorievskoye Gorge

At least 19,500 three-year-old Tien Shan spruce saplings have been planted over an area of 10 hectares in Grigorievskoye Gorge in Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan. Kumtor Gold Company CJSC reported.

According to the company, the annual regional greening campaign involved the company’s management and employees, specialists from the Forestry Service under the Ministry of Emergency Situations, local residents, and activists.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kumtor Gold Company, Bolotbek Idirisov, stated that the company’s employees have previously taken part in large-scale initiatives to plant various tree species.

«For example, in 2024, at least 332,400 saplings of birch, red spruce, and Tien Shan spruce were planted over 300 hectares in Karkyra Gorge. A year earlier, company staff took part in planting Tien Shan spruce saplings in Chong-Kyzyl-Suu village in Jeti-Oguz district. Now, as part of the national Zhashyl Muras campaign, 19,500 spruce saplings have been planted in one of the most beautiful locations — Grigorievskoye Gorge — through a joint effort. I hope they will take root, and this beloved spot will become even more attractive for recreation, ethnic festivals, and competitions,» he said.

Bolotbek Idirisov also emphasized the importance of expanding forested areas across the country.

«Forests help prevent soil erosion and reduce the number of natural disasters such as landslides and mudflows, which cause significant damage each year. It’s also important to note that increasing forested land greatly contributes to the country’s bioeconomy. There are always more flowers and herbs in forest areas, which is important for our beekeepers, who annually collect Kyrgyz mountain honey, which is unique in its taste and healing properties,» the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company emphasized.
