SCNS foils $10,000 extortion attempt against foreign investor

The State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS) reported the detention of a German national F.V.G. on suspicion of large-scale extortion.

According to the SCNS, the suspect was apprehended while receiving $10,000 as a result of operational and investigative measures. Earlier, F.V.G. had demanded $6.2 million or the transfer of a property complex in Tokmak (Chui region) from a foreign investor, now citizen of Kyrgyzstan N.M.I., despite the investor having fully settled all financial obligations to him.

The extortion was reportedly accompanied by blackmail and threats to appeal to law enforcement and judicial authorities.

An investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime.

The SCNS warns against violations of the law and pledges to take firm action to stop criminal activities, including those of a criminal nature.
