Construction of an underground pedestrian crossing on the recently renovated Chingiz Aitmatov Avenue has begun in Bishkek. Heavy equipment is at work on the site, as contractors have begun excavating the pit.
The crossing is being built as part of a program to ensure pedestrian safety and reduce accidents on busy thoroughfares.
The crossing will be equipped with lighting, video surveillance, and storm drainage systems. Ramps for people with disabilities will also be installed.
