6.1-magnitude earthquake hits Turkey: Houses destroyed

A 6.1-magnitude earthquake hit Turkey late in the evening on October 27, CNN Türk reported.

Tremors were felt in Balikesir, Istanbul, Izmir, Bursa, and other regions.

The epicenter was in the west of the country, 9 kilometers from Sındırgı, where power outages were reported and several buildings collapsed.

Local authorities reported localized damage. Residents fled their homes, fearing aftershocks and further destruction. Emergency services are working at the scene.
