In 2017, a total of 11,976 earthquakes were registered in Kyrgyzstan. Such information was provided to 24-kg.com news agency by the Institute of Seismology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic.
According to it, 308 earth shocks reached 2-3 points or higher. There were no 6- and 7-point earthquakes.
The map presented by the institute shows in which regions of Kyrgyzstan 2-3-points earthquakes occurred most often.
«K is an energy class. The 10th energy class means a 3-4-point earthquake, the 9th class — lower and so on. We do not record earthquakes with points,» the institute explained.
For comparison, the Seismology Institute of the Kyrgyz Republic presented data for 2016 as well. Then a little more earthquakes — 12,687 — were registered. At least 305 of them had an intensity of 2-3 points or more. Six- and seven- point earthquakes were also absent, but several five-point tremors were recorded, their epicenters were not located in Kyrgyzstan, but they were felt, for example, in Alai.
